How to Calculate the Power Consumption of an LED Display

Among customer groups, there is a frequently discussed topic: Is the power consumption of LED displays particularly high? How should power distribution be carried out scientifically? Below, Milestrong provides you with a simple and scientific method for calculating power consumption.

Under normal circumstances, if an LED display has only one power supply, we can estimate its maximum power consumption based on the wattage indicated on the power supply label. If it consists of multiple power supplies, we can refer to the parameters provided by the manufacturer for calculation, which will be more accurate. Alternatively, when purchasing an LED display, the manufacturer can help calculate and summarize the power consumption for you.

Power consumption = Average power consumption (kW/m²) × Area (m²) × Operating duration

Below are the average power consumption values for different pixel pitches:

Pixel pitch: P1.5–P2.5, average power consumption: 300 W/m²  
Pixel pitch: P3.0–P6.0, average power consumption: 280 W/m²  
Pixel pitch: P6.0–P10.0, average power consumption: 250 W/m²  

Tip:  
To effectively reduce the power consumption of an LED display, we can choose energy‑saving models when selecting an LED display, preferably those with built‑in brightness adjustment functions, so that they do not display at high brightness in low‑light environments at night.
