Choose the appropriate LED display based on project requirements

When your project requires installing a screen, you might also face the problem of not knowing how to choose the right display. We only need to clarify three questions.

  1. Is the screen installed indoors or outdoors?
  2. What is the approximate viewing distance?
  3. Are there any other functional requirements?

Start with the first question: indoor and outdoor displays are very different. Outdoor LED displays tend to be more complex, possibly involving waterproofing, dustproofing, even wind resistance, high-temperature tolerance, and low-temperature tolerance. Indoor LED displays operate in a less harsh environment, so their requirements are not as demanding. Therefore, it’s important to determine whether your LED display will be used indoors or outdoors.

The second consideration is your viewing distance. Whether indoor or outdoor, LED displays have a concept called “pixel pitch,” which refers to the distance between the centers of two adjacent LEDs. The lower the pixel pitch, the clearer and finer the image quality; the higher the pixel pitch, the larger the required screen size and viewing distance. For example, indoors, you can use a smaller pixel pitch, while outdoors, if the viewing distance is greater, the pixel pitch should be larger.

The final question is whether there are any other functional requirements. For instance, waterproofing and dustproofing are part of these additional functions. There are also many other features to consider, such as whether you need interactive functionality, whether there are special shape requirements for the display, or whether multiple screens are needed. Having these details clarified will help you obtain faster and better solutions when communicating with LED manufacturers.
